Quality Décor were highly recommended by an architect. We contacted them and they arranged for us to visit two of their previous clients. It was apparent that the scope of skills and services Quality Décor provided was far more than the architect led to believe.
Ivor Macklin’s knowledge of the Arts & Crafts movement, combined with his talent at design was a real bonus. This helped us no end.
The mood boards he provided were based on the colours in the tile inserts of our fireplaces and whilst many things changed during the project, the original colour suggestions by Wendy Macklin were excellent.
Many times during the project, Ivor would point out an aspect of our home and explain its original use. For example: - At one point we wished to replace the missing door under the stairs that led to our kitchen.
Our first thought was that it should match the rest of the grand doors in the hall, but when I asked Ivor, he pointed out that the door would have led to a servant’s area and was intended to be hidden. By making it to match the rest of the paneling under the stairs the result was perfect.
Ivor also designed the bottom of our stairs, installing an additional newel post and banisters, creating a safer staircase for the children and a larger and more usable floor area in the hall.
We were pleased with all his staff’s skills and technical knowledge. The ceilings and walls that were badly cracked are still perfect and some were completed a year ago. We were also very grateful that he recommended a new product, Diamond Matt Emulsion, which wears better than normal paint with young children in the home.
The work was managed well and we were pleased to notice the time taken in training his staff and specifically his apprentice Alex.
The skill that was required in graining our living room fireplace to match our furniture, so pleased us that we asked Ivor to design our kitchen scheme.
At one end, facing you as you enter, he created a magnificent Victorian marble surround to the cooker whilst at the other, he restored the dresser which had been removed and fitted on a different wall. It had a black-over-red paint effect applied, creating an amazing look almost like old leather.
In the master bathroom, the dull feet on the roll top bath were brought to life with an effect that demonstrated the attention to detail shown throughout.
When we were purchasing children’s bedroom furniture, Ivor sourced the furniture from Aspace and supplied it to us with a better discount than we could have obtained ourselves. He also used his contacts with a specialist lighting designer, to find some special spot lights that were of a much higher specification than those offered by our builder.
Throughout the project, any problems were ironed out quickly by Ivor and his team helping to relieve the stress from my wife and myself.
Both my wife and I have recommended Ivor and the Dulux Select Scheme to our neighbours. We look forward to living in my new home and choosing lights, pictures and furniture with Ivor’s help.
