SELECT MEMBER RECOGNISED IN PROFESSIONAL CONSTRUCTION AWARDS
Dulux Select Decorator member, Quality Decor, has won the CITB Employer of the Year Award 2005 for the London and South East region. The Surrey-based company beat off strong competition from plumbers, builders and other construction industry professionals to win the award in the small business category.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Awards highlight first class examples of training and development support within the construction industry.
Ivor Macklin, one of the directors of Quality Decor, was delighted with the win, "It's a real feather in our cap and for the decorating industry in general to be recognised in this manner by the CITB. We are very proud of our in-house training programme and our apprentices are thrilled to have won".
Quality Decor was one of first companies to join Dulux Select Decorators, becoming a member in 1997, when the scheme had been running for less than a year. The scheme offers a number of benefits for decorators including Dulux approved status, free training, a 24-hour helpline offering financial and legal advice and regional advertising support. The scheme also guarantees any members’ work for 12 months.
Mr. Macklin has been impressed with the scheme and the services available.
"Unlike other guilds, it is proactive and offers valuable benefits for decorators, and it has certainly helped to bring in additional work. We have found the training courses helpful and it’s great to meet other like-minded companies through the Select website. Knowing there is back-up and support from the Select office is also very useful".
Quality Decor offers a bespoke service to customers, and past projects have included Kensington Palace, Claridges Hotel and the Victoria and Albert Museum. It has over 20 years experience in training both adults and apprentices, and is the only company within the UK whose apprentices can gain the freedom of the city of London as part of a level 3 NVQ through the CITB. The apprentices receive on-the-job training, and their progress is evaluated every 6 months.
Dinny Court, Customer Marketing Manager for the domestic market from Dulux Trade was very pleased with Quality Decor’s award, saying, "It's great to see one of our accredited decorators winning. I'm delighted that all the hard work Quality Decor has put into their training scheme has been recognised".
